Tea and Herbal Tea Packaging

Packaging is as important as the taste of the tea. For preserving the flavor, aroma and taste of the tea, the correct selection of packaging should be used for the reason that the taste of tea is badly affected by a number of factors including humidity, oxygen, odor and light. Proper packaging protects tea from humidity, oxidation, odor pollution and light; also keeps the moisture content at a suitable level.

• Moisture: Moisture content is one of the most important factors regarding the quality of tea. After processed, moisture content of the tea should be 7% in order to maintain its freshness and prevent mildews. Moisture barrier bags should be used for tea packaging.

• Oxygen: When the exposed to air, the oxygen causes oxidation, which results in bacterial growth and deterioration. Packages that prevent exposure to air, acting as barriers extend the shelf life and preserve the taste and aroma of the tea.

• Odor: Due to its characteristics, tea absorbs moisture as well as odors in the environment. Without proper packaging, when stored together tea will absorb the odors of strong smelling products such as spice, cosmetics and cheese, and lose its own fragrance.

• Tea is affected by sunlight and loses its fragrance and taste after exposure to light. Thus, they should be properly packaged and stored.

• Heat sealed bags prevents exposure to external elements. In addition, heat sealed packaging helps tea maintain its value from filling to the end of its shelf life. Since heat sealed bags are sealed by heat welding, there is no opening in the package to cause moisture and fragrance to escape and humidity and odor to enter. Since the bottom of the bag is not glued, there is no risk of bursting even if it falls off the shelf. Since heat sealed bags could only be opened by cutting, it is not possible to open and close them again for fraudulent reasons without being noticed.
